About
Small company. Long horizon.
mimux is built and maintained by Merola Software & Services, an independent software company in Zurich. It exists because the choice between webmail that spies and mail clients that can't be automated is a bad one — and because independent software, with no investors and no growth targets, has no reason to ever hold your mail hostage.
What it's built on
The free/pro line is published, and it doesn't move.
Everything a human does in mimux is free, AGPL-3.0, forever. Everything a machine does through mimux — the API, the MCP server, webhooks — is paid. That line was written down publicly before the paid layer existed, precisely so it can be held against the company later.
Verifiable beats trustworthy.
"No telemetry" is a claim; make verify-free is a proof. The free build's dependency graph is checked in CI to contain zero commercial code, licence verification runs offline, and every licensing claim on this site has a corresponding check in the repository.
Boring technology, long horizons.
One Go binary, one SQLite file, htmx on the front. Chosen not because they're fashionable but because they'll still compile, restore and run in ten years. Email is decades old; a mail client should plan to be.
Small by design.
mimux is single-admin on purpose. It will not grow teams, tenants, or an enterprise tier — it grows in depth, not width. If you need multi-tenant email infrastructure, excellent products exist; this isn't trying to become one.
The company
mimux is a product of Merola Software & Services, the independent software business of Matteo Merola, based in Zurich, Switzerland. The client is open source under AGPL-3.0; the automation layer is source-available under the Elastic License 2.0; the whole arrangement is documented in LICENSING.md.
